In this Linux world, the user is expected to inform himself about the PROs and CONs of different distributions if he wants a system that works for him.

This leads to 1000s of different Linux-based operating systems delivering a different experience to the user in terms of UI, usability, but also stability and up-to-dateness. On Linux you have 1000s of choices and groups working on different things, sometimes implementing the same feature in different ways because they don't agree with one another. And since Microsoft controls all parts of their operating system, they can make all the parts that make up their system work together perfectly to deliver one coherent experience (in theory). This allows Microsoft to focus on just 1 product. Windows 10 is one, singular system without much derivation going on. into obscure Group Rights or PowerShell commands and Linux' development continues producing better GUIs.
